How to Create the Perfect Nursery for Your Baby

A safe, calm space where your baby can sleep and grow.

Creating the perfect nursery is one of the most exciting parts of preparing for a new baby. But beyond aesthetics, the nursery needs to be safe, functional, and soothing. Here's our guide to getting it just right.

Choosing the Right Cot

Always choose a cot that meets current UK safety standards. The mattress should be firm and fit snugly with no gaps. Avoid pillows, duvets, and bumpers for babies under 12 months.

Colour & Lighting

Soft, neutral tones promote calm and help babies sleep. Blackout curtains are a must for daytime naps. A dimmable nightlight is perfect for night feeds without fully waking your baby.

Storage & Organisation

Keep nappies, wipes, and clothing within easy reach of the changing area. Use baskets and drawer dividers to keep small items organised. A well-organised nursery makes those 3am nappy changes much smoother!

Temperature & Safety

The ideal room temperature for a baby's nursery is between 16–20°C. Use a room thermometer to monitor this. Ensure all furniture is securely fixed to walls and that blind cords are out of reach.
